Welcome to the Angus Folk Summer/Autumn term of 2008.

The new term starts on Tuesday July 29th at 7.30 pm in the upstairs function room of the Airlie Arms Hotel, Kirriemuir. Isola McKenna will be the guest tutor for the first session. Isola will be teaching songs with an African flavour.

Amy Lord will be our main tutor for the term – teaching on the 12th  and 26th  of August and the 2nd  and 9th  of September. Classes run from 7 to 9pm on the evenings that Amy is teaching. All other evening classes will be 7.30 to 9.30 as usual.

There will be a sing around at the Airlie Arms on Tuesday 5th August at 7.30. This is a chance to share your own favourite songs with the rest of the group- but only if you are happy to do so! If you prefer not to sing solo you can just listen and join in with the songs you know.

The term will be just 8 weeks long, as was agreed by members at the AGM in April.

There are plenty of gigs lined up for the summer term. On Friday 22nd August we will be giving a performance in Brechin Cathedral for Christian Aid funds. Singing in this church with its wonderful acoustics should be great.  In September Angus Folk will be singing at the opening concert for the Kirriemuir Festival  (September 5th) and will be doing a gig at the Longforgan Guild open evening (September 24th).

Angus Folk will be venturing into new territory during this term by organising a quiz night at the Fort Bar in Broughty Ferry as part of our fundraising efforts. This will be on Tuesday 23rd September. The pub runs the quiz – providing the quiz master, some food at the interval and some wine as prizes. Angus Folk just needs to provide the quiz prizes, raffle prizes and as many participants as possible.  Teams of 4 compete – with the entry fee of £2.50 per head.

The last few classes of the spring /summer term were spent practising for the CD recording session on 15th June. This went well and we anticipate that we will be proud to distribute the resulting CD!
